Prime Minister Emil Boc, who attended the presentation of the track record of the Romanian Police in 2009, asked policemen to intensify the steps against tax evasion.
     According to Agerpres, Emil Boc said: "In 2010 we are at war with tax evasion. It"s a modern form of war, but it is badly needed by the Romanian society. Before raising taxes - in 2010 we won"t raise any of the major taxes - we need to improve tax collection and to bring in more revenue to the state budget".
     The prime minister warned that he would personally make sure that he will personally make sure that the institutions involved in fighting tax evasion do their job.
     Emil Boc said: "I will personally make sure, through the Government"s Antifraud Department, that the National Fiscal Administration Agency, the Public Prosecutor"s Office, the Police, and all the institutions that we can co-opt for this mission, will identify and eliminate the avenues of tax evasion. We all know which ones they are, but perhaps the politicians weren"t willing to take things further".
     Furthermore, the PM told police officers that accession to the Schengen Space by March 2011 is feasible.
     The prime-minister said: "One of the major priorities of the Government is that, by March 2011, Romanians would benefit from all their rights as citizens of the European Union, without restrictions and limitations when it comes to accessing the Schengen space. This objective can be achieved, even though it won"t be easy".
     The head of the Executive also assured policemen that they would receive their overdue salaries.
