The U.S. electric vehicle market remains firmly in Tesla's hands, even as traditional automakers gain ground. In the second quarter of 2025, Tesla sold more than 143,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the U.S., nearly half of all electric vehicles delivered in the country, according to a visualcapitalist.com analysis based on CleanTechnica data.

Tesla continues to dominate the market, with a 48.5% share, shipping 143,535 units in the second quarter of 2025. While the pace is down slightly from previous quarters, Tesla is still well ahead of the competition. The company's volume shipped exceeds the next four brands combined, underscoring strong brand loyalty and manufacturing capacity.
General Motors (GM) made significant progress, and the Chevrolet brand led the campaign to second place in the ranking, with 27,135 units sold. Also taking into account the Cadillac and GMC brands, GM's share reaches 15.2%, up from 10.8% in the previous quarter.
• Ford and Hyundai fight for third place
The American company Ford Motor and the South Korean giant Hyundai are tied, holding 5.5% and 5.3% of the analyzed market, respectively. Ford sold 16,438 electric vehicles in the US in the second quarter, while Hyundai delivered 15,564. Both companies continue to expand their electric vehicle ranges and compete in the mid-range segment of the car market. Luxury and niche brands such as BMW, Rivian and Audi follow, but their volumes remain relatively modest: BMW - 11,094 cars delivered; Rivian - 10,661; Audi - 5,654. In the cited ranking, between Rivian and Audi are the following brands: Nissan (9,073 units delivered); Honda (6,756); GMC (6,032).
After Audi, which occupies position 11, the ranking also includes: Acura (5,522 electric cars delivered); Kia (4,975); Mercedes (4,613); others (27,590, includes the brands Jeep, Toyota, Subaru, Volvo, Porsche, Lucid, Volkswagen, Dodge, Lexus, Genesis, Fiat). The total number of battery electric cars delivered in the US, in the second quarter of this year, amounts to 306,437 units.
