Global Economy - Projected at $150 Trillion in 2030

Versiunea în limba română

Forecasts show that the global economy will grow by almost $25 trillion between 2026 and 2030 The US ($37.7 trillion) and China ($26 trillion) will remain the world's largest economies Germany and India are expected to be, almost equally, in third place

The global economy is expected to exceed $150 trillion by 2030, with significant growth to be recorded in emerging markets in Asia.

Visualcapitalist.com presents estimates for the nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of countries in 2030, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Largest Economies

The three largest economies in 2030 are projected to be the same as in 2026. The United States leads with $37.7 trillion, followed by China with $26 trillion, and Germany in a distant third with $6.2 trillion. Together, these three countries are expected to add more than $10 trillion in economic output between 2026 and 2030, with China leading the way.

The race for third place is tight, according to the source. Germany is expected to have an economy of $6.178 trillion in 2030, compared to $6.173 trillion for India, a gap of just $5 billion.

India could soon overtake Germany in terms of nominal GDP if current growth trends continue, the source said. The rankings look very different when adjusted for purchasing power parity, where India's economy is already about three times the size of Germany's.

Asia's Rise

By 2030, Asia and the Middle East are expected to generate $55.7 trillion in economic output, accounting for more than a third of the global economy.

Japan will be the region's next-largest economy after China and India, with $5 trillion, followed by South Korea ($2.3 trillion) and Indonesia ($2.1 trillion).

Japan's economy, long in stagnation, has seen a sharp decline in growth in recent decades. Once the world's second-largest economy, Japan was overtaken by China in 2010 and Germany in 2024.

Europe - a balanced economy

Europe's economy, at $37 trillion, is expected to be one of the most balanced in the world, by country, in 2030. By comparison, a single country accounts for more than half of the continental economy in both North and South America.

Europe is projected to account for about a fifth of the global economy in 2030. Assuming no new entries or exits from the bloc, the member states of the European Union will reach a combined nominal GDP of $26.5 trillion, with Germany, France ($4 trillion) and Italy ($3 trillion) in the top three.

Meanwhile, the UK ($5.1 trillion) will remain the continent's largest non-EU economy, followed by Russia ($2.6 trillion). Russia is among the few major economies expected to shrink between 2026 and 2030.
