- The National Bank of Romania announces that, as of July 31, 2026, foreign exchange reserves at the National Bank of Romania stood at 63,230 million euros, compared to 63,493 million euros on June 30, 2026. The level of the gold reserve remained at 103.6 tons. Given the evolution of international prices, its value stood at 11,742 million euros. Romania's international reserves (currency plus gold) as of July 31, 2026 were 74,972 million euros, compared to 75,259 million euros on June 30, 2026.
- The franc reaches the maximum exchange rate of the month against our currency: 5.6318 lei, according to NBR data.
- The gram of gold, quoted at the minimum level of the month: 593.4384 lei, according to NBR.

- Dollar - at the highest rate of the month against our currency: 4.5624 lei, according to the NBR.

- The Government approves the Risk Preparedness Plan in the field of electricity.
• August 10
- The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania (NBR) decides the following: maintaining the monetary policy interest rate at 6.50% per year; maintaining the interest rate for the lending facility (Lombard) at 7.50% per year and the interest rate for the deposit facility at 5.50% per year; maintaining the current levels of the minimum reserve requirements for liabilities in lei and foreign currency of credit institutions.
- Euro - at the lowest rate of the month against the leu: 5.2396 lei, according to NBR data.

- Romanian military divers destroy by controlled detonation two Gerbera drones discovered drifting in Romania's exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea, near the Neptun Deep perimeter.
• August 13
- Unit 2 at Cernavodă is taken out of production due to the continuous decrease in the level of the Danube.
• August 14
- BNR announces that, in the period January-June 2026, the current account of the balance of payments recorded a deficit of 14,202 million euros, compared to 13,555 million euros in the period January-June 2025. In its structure, the balance of goods recorded a deficit higher by 121 million euros, the balance of services - a surplus higher by 58 million euros, the balance of primary income - a deficit higher by 849 million euros, and the balance of secondary income made a positive contribution of 265 million euros.
- A drone crashes and explodes in the area of the Cetăţuia quarry, Tulcea County, approximately five kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

- A drone enters Romania from the Republic of Moldova, approximately 24 kilometers north of Galaţi.

- The Ministry of Finance informs the Government that the public debt, calculated according to the European methodology, reached 60.1% of GDP at the end of the first quarter.

- The dollar - at the lowest exchange rate of the month against our currency: 4.4884 lei, according to the National Bank of Romania.
- A drone enters the airspace near Galaţi and crashes in an uninhabited area near the town of Grindu, Tulcea County.
• August 24
- The gram of gold reaches the maximum price of the month: 672.2462 lei, according to the National Bank of Romania.
• August 25
- The National Bank of Romania (NBR) announces that broad money supply (M3) recorded a balance of 809,285.2 million lei at the end of July 2026. This increased by 0.7% (0.1% in real terms) compared to June 2026, and compared to July 2025 it increased by 7.6% (-0.5% in real terms).
• August 26
- Romania receives the first tranche of the SAFE program, worth 2.5 billion euros, an amount that represents 15% of the total allocation of 16.68 billion euros, the second largest in the European Union.
- The euro rises to the maximum exchange rate of the month against the leu: 5.2589 lei, according to NBR figures.
• August 27
- The Government redistributes the PNRR budgets to the reform and investment coordinators, after the review approved by the Council of the European Union on August 5.
- The franc reaches the minimum exchange rate of the month against our currency: 5.6046 lei, according to the NBR.
August 28
- The Ministry of Finance gives its approval for the allocation of 135.622 million lei from the Budgetary Reserve Fund at the Government's disposal to supplement the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, so that ROMATSA's activity and air navigation services can continue safely.
• August 31
- The Ministry of Finance announces that the consolidated general budget ended with a deficit of 48.08 billion lei, or 2.34% of GDP in the first seven months of 2026, compared to a deficit of 76.44 billion lei, or 3.99% of GDP in the same period in 2025.
- The BET index, which brings together the 20 most liquid securities of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), fell by 6.7% in August, to 33,743 points, after reaching a new historical high of 36,602 points during the month.
- The BET-BK index, the benchmark for the performance of equity investment funds, depreciated by 3.5%, to 6,508 points.
- Shares of electricity carrier Transelectrica fell 21.8% last month - the biggest decline in the BET index.
- Shares of sausage and ready-meals producer Cris-Tim Family Holding rose 18.2% in August, while shares of Sphera Franchise Group, the operator of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, rose 17.2%.
- The BET-FI index, of former SIFs plus Fondul Proprietatea, rose 3.8% to 112,097 points, the only BVB basket of shares to end the month higher.
