The Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) announced the official start of the process of organizing the European Youth Olympic Festival (YOF), which will be hosted by Braşov in 2027. The event was marked by the first meeting of the Interministerial Coordination Committee, held at the headquarters of the Romanian Government. According to COSR, the meeting marks the "official start of the process of organizing the most important multi-sport event dedicated to young European athletes”, consolidating Romania's role on the winter sports map on the continent.
• Interministerial cooperation for a national event
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Barna Tanczos, in the presence of COSR President Mihai Covaliu and COSR Secretary General George Boroi. Representatives of the ministries involved in the organization - Internal Affairs, Defense, Health, Development, Economy and Tourism - as well as local authorities from Braşov, Harghita and Covasna counties participated. Deputy Prime Minister Barna Tanczos emphasized that, in the coming period, the emphasis will be placed on logistical and operational preparation, so that FOTE 2027 will meet European and Olympic standards.
• Braşov, once again host of the Olympic spirit
FOTE Braşov 2027 represents a new stage in promoting Romania as a winter sports destination, after the success of FOTE 2013. The event will take place from 1 to 8 February 2027, in partnership with Braşov City Hall, the Government of Romania, the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, Braşov County Council, Sfântul Gheorghe City Hall, Râşnov City Hall, Predeal City Hall and the Cheile Grădiştei complex. "Organizing FOTE Braşov 2027 is a national project, which involves the responsibility and collaboration of all institutions. We have the chance to show once again that Romania can host a large-scale Olympic sporting event at the highest standards,” said Mihai Covaliu, COSR president. The festival is dedicated to athletes aged 14 to 18, who will compete in ten disciplines: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, 3x3 hockey, short track speed skating, ski jumping, snowboarding and ski mountaineering. By organizing FOTE 2027, Romania aims not only to offer an Olympic-level competition, but also to stimulate the development of sports infrastructure, attract young people to sports and strengthen Braşov's profile as a center of performance in winter sports.
