The decorative paints and coatings industry in our country has grown solidly in recent years, reaching a volume of 240,000 tons in 2024, equivalent to almost 490 million euros. Estimates show that, by the end of 2025, the market will exceed the 500 million euro threshold. This dynamic is fueled in particular by residential renovations, which generate 80% of consumption, but also by the growing preference for premium, durable and reliable products, already chosen by 85% of consumers, representatives of Akzo Nobel Coatings said during a press conference.

Innovations for the local market: the ACOMIX system and sustainable packaging

Akzo Nobel Coatings, a major player in the decorative paints and coatings market, announced on this occasion the launch of two innovations: the ACOMIX tinting system and recycled plastic packaging, along with the relaunch of two recognized brands from its portfolio: APLA and Rost. These initiatives are part of a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the company's position on the market, under favorable conditions. To meet the increasingly sophisticated demand, the company has invested 2 million euros in the development of the ACOMIX tinting system. It offers consumers access to over 2,000 shades for interiors and 320 options for exteriors, with the guarantee of increased accuracy and long-lasting resistance. In parallel, the company is taking an important step towards sustainability by replacing virgin plastic packaging with recycled plastic. The target is for half of the portfolio to be sustainably packaged by the end of 2025, and for the percentage to reach 90% in 2026.

Water-based products and environmentally friendly portfolio

The company relies on water-based products, considered more environmentally friendly and technically more efficient than traditional solutions. The company plans to expand its portfolio in this direction, thus strengthening its commitment to responsible development. In addition to innovations, it also announces the relaunch of the APLA and Rost brands, with a modernized design and positioned in line with Akzo Nobel global standards. The relaunch aims to increase the visibility and recognition of the brand in a competitive market. In addition, the new website www.savanaculoare.ro functions as a digital hub of inspiration and advice, for both consumers and professionals.

Color Trends: 2026, the Year of Blue

Each year, the company defines the color trends that will influence interior and exterior design. For 2026, the "Blue Symphony” collection offers three versatile shades - from calm and bright tones, to intense or vibrant blue - designed to bring balance, inspiration and a sense of well-being to any space.

Long-term vision and commitment to sustainability

"2024 was a year of consolidation, and in 2025 we want to accelerate through sustainable and efficient solutions, getting even closer to our customers,” said Laurenţiu Chiriac, National Commercial Director of Akzo Nobel Coatings. The company integrates sustainability into all business lines, from reducing virgin plastic and optimizing transportation, to expanding eco-friendly products.

A global player with strong roots in Romania

Akzo Nobel is present in Romania with two legal entities - Akzo Nobel Coatings S.R.L. and International Paint Romania Ltd. - and has in its portfolio well-known brands such as Savana, APLA, Sadolin, Hammerite, Rost and Innenweiss. With approximately 200 employees and a solid distribution network, the company anticipates organic growth in 2025, supported by innovation, sustainability and a diversified portfolio.
