University of Bucharest, national leader in six fields, in the QS 2026 ranking

The University of Bucharest (UB) ranks first in Romania in six academic fields, according to the latest ranking by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), published for the year 2026. According to official data, the university occupies the first position in Romania in the following fields: Linguistics; Modern Languages; English Language and Literature; Political Science; Chemistry; Geography. In fact, UB is the only university in Romania present in the QS ranking for three of these fields: English Language and Literature, Chemistry and Geography.

• Solid international positioning

Globally, the University of Bucharest is ranked in the following ranges: 151-200 in Linguistics; 201-250 in Modern Languages and Geography;

301-350 for English Language and Literature; 301-400 in Political Science;

551-600 in Chemistry. These results confirm the consolidation of the university's presence in international rankings in the field. In addition to the fields in which it occupies the first position, UB ranks second in Romania in: Mathematics (range 401-450 worldwide); Physics and Astronomy (range 601-675 worldwide).

• Presence in fundamental fields

In the 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, the University of Bucharest is included in four of the five fundamental fields: Arts and Humanities - range 451-500; Social Sciences and Management - range 451-500; Natural Sciences - range 501-550; Social Sciences and Management - range 501-550. The QS ranking analyzes the performance of higher education institutions based on relevant indicators: academic reputation; reputation among employers; number of citations of scientific papers; impact index (h-index); international collaborations (IRN). The 2026 edition evaluated over 1,900 universities globally.
