Village Museum organizes folk art workshops for children, youth and adults during the holidays

The Village Museum in Baia Mare will organize, during the month of August, seven weekend workshops dedicated to folk art and creative activities, addressed to children, youth and, depending on interest, adults, announced the director of the institution, Monica Mare.

• Pottery, leather and handmade creation workshops

According to the museum director, the summer program includes workshops on pottery, leather, making decorative objects with folk motifs, handmade creations, crochet, making dolls and terrariums, as well as meetings with craftsmen and artisans from Maramureş County. "The museum does not go on vacation during the summer. Together with my colleagues, I have scheduled a series of special workshops dedicated to folk art and traditions. Over the years, we have noticed a growing interest, especially from children and young people, in crafts and creative activities,” said Monica Mare. The workshops will be held by artists and folk craftsmen recognized in Maramureş, and the museum will be open between 11:00 and 18:00, offering participants the opportunity to take part in practical activities and discover traditional heritage in an open-air setting.

• Activities could be extended to adults as well

The director of the Village Museum stated that the program is designed mainly for children and young people, but if there is interest, workshops will also be organized for adults. "Children and young people usually come to the museum accompanied, and many adults have expressed their desire to participate in these activities. If we find interest, we will organize workshops for them as well," said Monica Mare. Located at the foot of the Flower Hill, the Village Museum in Baia Mare is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city, along with the Mineralogy Museum. The institution annually hosts creative camps, open-air exhibitions, popular astronomy workshops, popular and folk music concerts, as well as events dedicated to the four ethnographic areas of Maramureş.
