Admission 2025 to medical universities: thousands of candidates compete for a future in healthcare

A total of 3,877 candidates have registered this year for admission to the undergraduate studies cycle at the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest (UMFCD). Of these, over 2,400 are targeting the Faculty of Medicine, while other specializations, such as Dentistry or Pharmacy, have attracted hundreds of candidates.

The distribution by faculties is as follows: Medicine: 2,480 candidates, Dentistry: 763 candidates, Pharmacy: 96 candidates, Midwifery and Nursing: 538 candidates.

Budgeted and fee-based places: Medicine, still the most sought-after

For the 2025-2026 academic year, UMFCD offers: 735 budgeted places in Medicine (of which 2 for future SRI employees and 23 for graduates from rural areas),

250 fee-based places; In Dentistry, there are: 194 budgeted places available (14 for rural areas), 80 with a fee; Pharmacy has in competition: 99 budgeted places (9 for rural areas), 20 with a fee; The Faculty of Midwifery and Nursing offers a wide range of specializations, with over 100 budgeted places for General Nursing and dozens of other places for the Balneophysiokinetotherapy, Radiology, Dental Technology or Midwifery programs.

49 Olympians admitted directly

UMFCD continues the tradition of supporting excellence: 49 national and international Olympians in Biology, Physics or Chemistry were admitted without an exam, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Research. At the FMAM Ploieşti extension, candidates can compete for: 33 budgeted places and 16 fee-based places in General Medical Assistance, 33 budgeted places and 16 fee-based places in Balneophysiokinetotherapy and recovery.

The admission exam for Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and FMAM will take place on July 13, at 9:00 AM, in the Romexpo Complex in Bucharest, pavilions B1 and B2. Registration was done exclusively online, and the registration fee was 500 lei.

Tuition fees: between 8,000 and 19,000 lei/year

According to the decision of the UMFCD Senate, the fees are as follows: Medicine and Dentistry: 19,000 lei/year, Pharmacy: 10,000 lei/year, FMAM: 8,000 lei/year. Payment will be made in three installments (first - 50%, second - 25%, third - 25%).

Târgu Mureş: over 3,200 undergraduate places, including in English

UMFST "George Emil Palade” in Târgu Mureş comes with a wide offer: 3,258 undergraduate places, of which 1,100 budgeted, distributed in the 7 faculties, including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Medicine in English and technical and humanities fields.

For the Health field, there are 1,390 places up for grabs, most of them at the Faculty of Medicine (720 places, including the Military Medicine program).

Structure of the UMFST entrance exam

Candidates will be classified according to: 90% - written exam score, 10% - overall average from the Baccalaureate. For Medicine and Military Medicine: multiple-choice test with 100 questions "at first sight”, from Biology or Chemistry (at your choice), with one or two correct answers; For Pharmacy: multiple-choice test with 100 questions from Organic Chemistry (50 from the bibliography, 50 at first sight). Candidates for Military Medicine who are not admitted to this program on the spot will be automatically redistributed in the ranking for the civilian Medicine program, at no additional cost.

Compared to 2024, interest remains high. Current data confirms the maintenance of the status of elite universities for "Carol Davila" and "George Emil Palade", despite high fees and high demands.
