EnglishBill Gates, 52, the world"s third richest man, on Friday left the helm of the Microsoft empire to focus on his charitable activities within the "Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation." Nevertheless, Gates will remain Chairman of the Board and the leading shareholder in Microsoft. His current duties will be passed on to three directors, Ray Ozzie, Craig Mundie and Steve Ballmer. Gates will continue to spend one day per week at Microsoft, but many analysts believe that, without him, the company"s future is uncertain. The "Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation" was set up ten years ago as a charitable foundation taking action to improve health care, fight extreme poverty and provide computers and Internet access to third world countries.
