Bookfest 2025 brings 450 events and Portuguese literature to the forefront

The 18th edition of the International Book Fair takes place between May 28 and June 1 at Romexpo, bringing together 155 exhibitors and offering visitors over 450 cultural events. "This year we are approaching 450 events, which means a lot for the five days of the Book Fair," said Lidia Bodea, general manager of Humanitas Publishing House and representative of the Romanian Publishers Association (AER), during a press conference held at the Cişmigiu Bookstore.

• Portugal - the guest of honor of the 2025 edition

The guest of honor is Portugal, and the dedicated stand will host 25 events, including screenings of Portuguese films, according to Simina Popa, translator and promoter of Portuguese literature in Romania. "We celebrate together the coming of age of the Bookfest Salon (...). The public will be able to take a break from browsing or listening to releases to also meet with Portuguese cinema," added Lidia Bodea. Among the Portuguese writers present at Bookfest are: Jose Luís Peixoto, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Ana Margarida de Carvalho, Joăo Melo, Maria do Rosario Pedreira, Mafalda Milhões, David Machado.

Two important figures from the Portuguese publishing industry will also participate:

Henrique Mota, president of the Federation of European Publishers, founder of Princípia Editora,

Rosa Azevedo, a professional in Portuguese book publishing. A unique initiative at the Portuguese stand allows visitors to complete a "cultural passport". Through a draw, one of the participants will win a trip to Portugal, announced Oana Boca Stănescu, the coordinator of the communication campaign. The event promises an international edition, in which literature, cultural debates and interactive experiences will transform Romexpo into a true center of European intellectual dialogue.
