Brancusi, increasingly present in the major events of the art market

"Danaiada", the work of Constantin Brancusi, will be put up for auction today, May 18, alongside 15 other works signed by leading artists of the world, such as Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, Francis Bacon and Andy Warhol. The presence of Constantin Brancusi at the center of a promotional campaign carried out by Christie's and the association with a star of Nicole Kidman's stature once again confirms the status of the Romanian sculptor as a fundamental figure of modern art.

Actress Nicole Kidman visited Christie's galleries in New York City and was deeply impressed by "Danaiada", one of the most valuable and representative works of the Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi. The moment was captured in a promotional video posted on the auction house's official website, in which the artist appears contemplating the gilded sculpture exhibited in the galleries of Rockefeller Center. According to Christie's representatives, the film illustrates the power of art to provoke emotions and transport the viewer into a state of reflection and admiration. In the video, accompanied by the song "Golden Years" by David Bowie, Nicole Kidman approaches the sculpture, while the surrounding hustle and bustle seems to stop. The auction house describes the experience as an emotional journey in which the actress experiences feelings of joy, curiosity and fascination. Christie's emphasizes that Nicole Kidman, recognized for her constant support of the arts, is the perfect example of how a work of art can transform the viewer and open new perspectives on beauty and history.

"Danaida”, a masterpiece that inaugurated modern sculpture

Created in 1913, "Danaida” is a stylized portrait inspired by Margit Pogany, one of the sculptor's most famous muses. The work is part of a series of six sculptures and is considered by many art historians to be one of the works that marked the beginning of modern sculpture. The title refers to Greek mythology and the legend of the Danaids, and the influences range from the writings of Ovid to the creation of Brâncuşi's mentor, Auguste Rodin. Brâncuşi himself urged his admirers to look closely at his works: "Look at my sculptures until you can see them”, a formula that has become emblematic of his art based on essentialization and formal purity.

"Danaida” is one of the centerpieces of the exhibition "Masterpieces: The Private Collection of S.I. Newhouse,” dedicated to the impressive collection of media magnate S. I. Newhouse. In recent years, his works have set price records on the international art market, and the interest of major auction houses and collectors in his works continues to grow, consolidating Brâncuşi's reputation as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
