EnglishGroupe Danone S.A., the world"s largest yoghurt producer, has reported a 5.7% increase in profit in the first half of 2008 following the acquisition of Royal Numico NV last year. The French group"s profit from continuous operations reached 701 million EUR (1.1 billion USD) or 1.47 EUR/share from 663 million EUR or 1.38 EUR/share in the first half of 2007. Analysts were expecting 664 million EUR. In the reference period, Danone sales increased 9.6% (excluding currency exchange fluctuations and acquisitions) to 7.69 billion EUR. Analysts were expecting 7.76 billion EUR. For the entire year 2008, Danone is forecasting an 8-10 percent increase in sales, excluding acquisitions and currency exchange fluctuations. A year ago, Danone sold their biscuit division and then acquired children food producer Numico for 12.3 billion EUR.
