The industrial output of Romania decreased by 1.5% year-on-year in August following setbacks in the processing industry and the mining industry, which could not be offset by the good progress of the energy sector, the National Statistic Institute (INS) announced on Tuesday. In July, the industrial output had an annual growth rate of 5.1%. The processing industry output advanced 2.4% between August 2007 and August 2008, while the mining industry declined 0.7%. The energy sector gained 12.1% in the referenced period. The consumer goods industry advanced 2.7%, while most others reported declines. Manufacturers of appliances reported a 17.5% setback, while capital goods manufacturers reported a 5.7% decline.
