• June 2

- The National Bank of Romania announces that, as of May 31, 2026, the foreign exchange reserves at the National Bank of Romania stood at 64,051 million euros, compared to 64,836 million euros on April 30, 2026. The level of the gold reserve remained at 103.6 tons. Given the evolution of international prices, its value stood at 12,991 million euros. Romania's international reserves (currency plus gold) as of May 31, 2026 were 77,042 million euros, compared to 78,007 million euros on April 30, 2026.

- The franc reaches the maximum exchange rate of the month against our currency: 5.7432 lei, according to NBR data.

- The gram of gold reaches the maximum price of the month: 657.5752 lei, according to NBR.

• June 3

- Euro rises to the highest rate of the month against the leu: 5.2592 lei, according to NBR figures.

• June 4

- President Nicuşor Dan designates MEP Eugen Tomac as candidate for prime minister.

• June 5

- A naval drone of the type used in the war in Ukraine is spotted near Berth 78 in the Port of Constanta. It exploded without causing any casualties.

- The National Institute of Statistics positively revises the estimate of Gross Domestic Product in the first quarter of the year: a decrease of 1.2% in real terms (on the gross series), compared to the first quarter of 2025, from -1.7%, initially published.

• June 7

- The Competition Council fines ten banks in our country with 3.7 billion lei for coordinating their behavior within the procedure for establishing the ROBOR index. The credit institutions claim that they acted in accordance with the law and will challenge the sanctions in court.

• June 14

- Eugen Tomac resigns after finding that he cannot muster the necessary political support.

- The president nominates the liberal Adrian Veştea, president of the Braşov County Council, for the position of prime minister. The PNL leadership rejects the proposal.

• June 15

- The National Bank of Romania announces that, in the period January-April 2026, the current account of the balance of payments recorded a deficit of 7,980 million euros, compared to 9,101 million euros in the period January-April 2025. In its structure, the balance of goods recorded a deficit lower by 698 million euros, the balance of services - a surplus higher by 197 million euros, the balance of primary income - a deficit higher by 204 million euros, and the balance of secondary income made a positive contribution of 430 million euros.

• June 16

- Euro - at the lowest exchange rate of the month against the leu: 5.2310 lei, according to NBR data.

- The dollar - at the lowest exchange rate of the month against our currency: 4.5091 lei, according to NBR.

• June 18

- The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) places Mayor General Ciprian Ciucu under judicial control and subsequently indicts him for bribery during his time as mayor of Sector 6.

- The Mayor of Timişoara, Dominic Fritz, definitively loses, at the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the lawsuit with the National Integrity Agency, in which he was declared to have a conflict of interest.

• June 22

- Christian Tour becomes the first tour operator listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), after an initial public offering worth 149 million lei (28.4 million euros), concluded with a subscription rate of 121%.

- The Veştea Government is subject to the investiture vote, but only collects 189 votes out of the 233 required.

- The franc reaches the minimum exchange rate of the month against our currency: 5.6624 lei, according to the BNR.

• June 23

- Romania receives 2.25 billion euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), an amount that represents the payment related to payment request number 4.

• June 24

- PSD decides to propose party leader Sorin Grindeanu as prime minister, in the version of a social-democratic minority government.

- Dollar - at the highest exchange rate of the month against our currency: 4.6227 lei, according to the National Bank of Romania.

• June 25

- NBR announces that broad money supply (M3) recorded, at the end of May 2026, a balance of 806,089.2 million lei. This increased by 1.6% (1% real terms) compared to April 2026, and compared to May 2025 it increased by 7.5% (-3% in real terms).

- The Ministry of Finance announces that the consolidated general budget ended with a deficit of 35.94 billion lei, or 1.75% of GDP in the first five months of 2026, compared to a deficit of 64.23 billion lei, or 3.35% of GDP in the same period in 2025.

- The gram of gold, quoted at the minimum level of the month: 590.7325 lei, according to the NBR.

• June 26

- Moody's Rating Agency warns that prolonged political uncertainty and the lack of a functional parliamentary majority may put pressure on the fiscal consolidation process and the implementation of reforms undertaken by Romania.

- The European Commission approves the measures notified by the Ministry of Finance to strengthen the Investment and Development Bank (IDB), authorizing the increase in the institution's capital by up to one billion euros, the extension of the state guarantee until December 31, 2032, and the extension of the bank's mandate to new strategic areas.

- The Ministry of Finance lists the June issue of FIDELIS government bonds on the BVB. Subscriptions made between June 15 and 22 totaled over 936 million lei.

• June 30

- The BET index, of the 20 most liquid stocks traded on the BVB, rose 8.7% in June, to 32,487 points - a historic record at the time.

- The BET-BK index, the benchmark for the performance of equity investment funds, rose 8%, to 6,251 points.

- Shares of telecommunications operator Digi Communications rose 27.1%, to 61.7 lei - a historic record, in a month in which the company officially announced its intention to list its Spanish subsidiary on four stock exchanges in the Iberian Peninsula, as well as the signing of a framework agreement worth almost 200 million euros.

- Shares of energy supplier Electrica rose 23.9%, with the company winning the public tender for the project to produce thermal and electrical energy based on cogeneration and/or renewable energy sources in Craiova Municipality.

- Shares of the sausage and ready-meals producer Cris-Tim Family Holding appreciated by 16.6% in June, the month in which the company paid dividends of 77.6 million lei.

- BRD-Groupe Societe Generale shares appreciated by 14.7%, those of Banca Transilvania - by 3.14%.

- The BET-FI index, of former SIFs plus Fondul Proprietatea, decreased by 1.3%, to 104,406 points, the financial index being the only basket of shares on the BVB that had a negative price last month.
