MEC awarded medal-winning students at international and regional olympiads

The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) informs that 157 Olympiad students, 179 teachers and 72 educational institutions were rewarded at the International Olympiad Gala, organized at the National Children's Palace. The total fund allocated to the winners amounts to over 4.45 million lei, according to MEC. The ministry announces that the students come from 72 state and private schools and high schools, from 29 counties and the Capital, and were distinguished for their performances at international and regional competitions held in 2025. They accumulated 206 distinctions at 35 olympiads: 14 world competitions and 21 European regional competitions, both at junior and senior levels. According to the MEC, of the 206 results obtained:

4 are absolute gold medals (with maximum score); 59 gold medals / first prizes; 61 silver medals / second prizes; 53 bronze medals / third prizes; 29 mentions or equivalent diplomas. Individual performances are remarkable: one student obtained six distinctions, five students four each, another five three each, and 19 students obtained two distinctions each.

Financial prizes are awarded in accordance with the legislation on stimulating high school performance. Prizes for international competitions: 20,000 lei - absolute first prize (maximum score); 15,000 lei - first prize / gold medal; 12,500 lei - second prize / silver medal; 10,000 lei - third prize / bronze medal; 6,000 lei - mention. Prizes for regional/Balkan competitions (juniors and seniors): 10,000 lei - gold medal with absolute score; 7,500 lei - gold medal; 6,000 lei - silver medal; 5,000 lei - bronze medal; 3,000 lei - mention.

The MEC specifies that 179 teachers will receive financial incentives. Each teacher receives a single prize, corresponding to the highest distinction obtained by one of the prepared students. If a student had more than one teacher, the amount is divided equally. The 72 educational institutions from which the students come will receive prizes equivalent to those of the laureate students, the funds being used for equipment and improving the educational process, with priority for the subjects in which the performances were achieved. The total budget allocated by the Ministry of Education for awards in 2025 is 4,454,542 lei, an amount intended to support excellence in education and promote Romanian Olympians in international competitions.
