Ministry of Education Analyzes Bureaucracy in Schools

Versiunea în limba română

The Institute for Educational Sciences is conducting a study to identify and simplify administrative tasks in schools, given that documentation and procedures consume a portion of teachers' time. Results are expected by the end of 2026 or early next year, according to Sorin Costreie, a representative of the Ministry of Education.

• Survey across 180 educational institutions

The research aims to determine the origins of the volume of administrative work, the mechanisms that exacerbate it, and the periods during the school year when the workload peaks. According to the official, the study seeks to clarify whether this bureaucratic burden stems from methodologies developed by the Ministry, requirements imposed by school inspectorates or other institutions, internal school procedures, or practices that have accumulated over time.

To date, focus groups have been held with teachers, and interviews have been conducted with school principals. The next phase will involve a survey across a sample of 180 educational institutions, with participation from both principals and teaching staff. School inspectors will also be consulted.

• Simplifying procedures based on findings

The Ministry of Education maintains that de-bureaucratization measures must be based on a concrete identification of the sources of administrative burden, allowing for the elimination or simplification of unnecessary procedures. "We likely won't eliminate all paperwork, but every additional document takes away time that a teacher needs for their students and for their own reflection," stated Sorin Costreie in a Facebook post. According to him, the goal is to free up some of the teachers' time, allowing them to focus more on their teaching activities and their students.

The research findings are expected to be made public by the end of the 2026 calendar year or early 2027. Based on these conclusions, the Ministry of Education intends to identify which documents and procedures can be eliminated or simplified.
