Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna met at the Victoria Palace with Nadia Comăneci, a symbol of world gymnastics, and with Mihai Covaliu, president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR). The discussions aimed at organizing the series of events dedicated to the "Year of Nadia Comăneci” in 2026, a year that marks 50 years since the historic performance at the Montreal Olympics. Among the planned projects is the Nadia Comăneci Gala, which will take place on May 29, 2026, as well as gymnastics competitions, educational events and the launch of a documentary dedicated to the champion's career. The Prime Minister emphasized the symbolic importance of this anniversary for Romania's sporting and national identity. "In the memory of Romanian society, the name Nadia Comăneci has made history over the past 50 years.

The results of her work and the performances she achieved have inspired and will continue to inspire," said Ilie Bolojan, according to a Government statement. The Head of the Executive added that the Government will actively support the organization of all events dedicated to this moment.

Promoting sports among young people

Another point of discussion aimed at encouraging the practice of sports by children and young people, an objective assumed by the Government in the context of the decline in interest in physical activities among students. The participants in the meeting agreed on the organization of educational programs and school competitions that would promote the Olympic spirit and the values represented by Nadia Comăneci: perseverance, excellence and discipline. In 2026, it will be five decades since the moment that changed the history of gymnastics forever. At the Montreal Olympics (1976), Nadia Comăneci received seven 10s, the first in the history of official competitions, setting an absolute record - 20 points on uneven bars, according to the scoring code of the era. Her performances transformed that edition of the Olympic Games into what the international press called the "Nadia Comăneci Olympics”. At that time, the Romanian gymnast won five medals:

Three gold - on the all-around, beam and parallel bars; One silver, with the Romanian team; One bronze, on floor.
