UMF "Carol Davila", first in Romania in the NTU Ranking 2026

The "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest ranks first among Romanian universities included in the 2026 edition of the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers (NTU Ranking), an international ranking that evaluates the performance of higher education institutions in scientific research. According to UMF "Carol Davila", the university ranks 597th in the overall ranking, being the first of the four higher education institutions in Romania included in this year's edition. The result represents an improvement of 91 positions compared to the previous edition, according to university representatives. In the ranking in the field of Medicine, UMF "Carol Davila" is ranked 261st worldwide and is the only university in Romania included in this category. Compared to the previous edition, the institution has climbed seven positions in the world ranking of the field.

• Research, the central criterion of the ranking

The Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers has been carried out annually, since 2012, by National Taiwan University and evaluates universities exclusively through the prism of scientific research performance. The ranking uses bibliometric indicators that track both scientific productivity and the impact of publications. The methodology takes into account, over a period of 11 years, the number of published articles, the number of citations and the share of works published in journals with a high impact factor. The NTU Ranking is also among the international rankings recognized within the National Metaranking of Universities, an instrument used in Romania to evaluate the performance of higher education institutions.
