The University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology (UMFST) "George Emil Palade" from Târgu Mureş has officially become part of a European University Alliance recognized by the European Commission. The announcement was made by the institution's rector, Professor Dr. Leonard Azamfirei, who emphasized the importance of this step for Romanian higher education and for the ever-deeper integration of Romanian universities into the European academic space. "Today, in Târgu Mureş, during the meeting of the European University Alliance DIVERSE, the receipt of the official letter from the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission was announced. With this, the DIVERSE alliance is officially recognized as a European University Alliance," the rector sent in a public post.

The DIVERSE Alliance - an acronym for Diversity and Inclusion, Visibility, Equity, Research, Sustainability, Excellence - brings together 12 universities from 11 European countries, totaling over 150,000 students and 15,000 teaching staff and researchers. The aim of this initiative is to create a multidisciplinary European institution that promotes technological innovation, applied research and academic entrepreneurship, in the spirit of the European values of inclusion, sustainability and transnational cooperation. "DIVERSE aims to become a global leader in Venture Science and Deep Tech, consolidating itself as an institution focused on innovation and entrepreneurship”, explained Leonard Azamfirei.

A European campus without borders

The alliance will develop a series of joint initiatives aimed at transforming European higher education into a more open, mobile and connected space. Among the main directions are: the creation of a transnational and multilingual campus, where students can access courses and resources from all partner universities; joint degree programs, which will allow obtaining diplomas recognized in several countries; extended academic and professional mobilities throughout Europe; sharing of research infrastructures and resources, for better scientific cooperation; development of a network of European institutional partnerships, with impact in education, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Partners from all over Europe

In addition to UMFST "George Emil Palade" from Târgu Mureş, the DIVERSE alliance includes top universities and colleges from: Belgium - Hogeschool PXL, Germany - Technische Hochschule Nurnberg Georg Simon Ohm and Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences, Finland - Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, Croatia - Algebra Bernays University, Portugal - Universidade Autonoma de Lisboa, Netherlands - Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, Ireland - Griffith College, Turkey - Beykent University, Lithuania - SMK College of Applied Sciences, Spain - Universidad Europea del Atlantico.

This geographically and academically diverse network reflects the European Union's ambition to create a common higher education space, where universities cooperate across borders and contribute to Europe's global competitiveness.

The official recognition of the DIVERSE Alliance is a confirmation of the academic growth of UMFST Târgu Mureş and of Romania's increasingly solid position in international university networks. The recognition of the DIVERSE alliance by the European Commission marks a major milestone in the process of integrating Romanian universities into the elite European university network.
