- The National Bank of Romania announces that, as of January 31, 2026, the foreign exchange reserves at the National Bank of Romania stood at 65,812 million euros, compared to 64,800 million euros on December 31, 2025. The level of the gold reserve remained at 103.6 tons. Given the evolution of international prices, its value stood at 14,221 million euros. Romania's international reserves (currency plus gold) as of January 31, 2026 were 80,033 million euros, compared to 77,017 million euros on December 31, 2025.

- The franc reaches the minimum exchange rate of the month against our currency: 5.5372 lei, according to NBR data.

- The gram of gold, quoted at the minimum level of the month: 644.9082 lei, according to NBR.

February 10

- Euro - at the lowest rate of the month against the leu: 5.0910 lei, according to NBR data.

February 11

- Dollar - at the lowest rate of the month against our currency: 4.2701 lei, according to NBR.

February 14

- Financial rating agency Fitch maintains Romania's long-term foreign currency issuer rating at "BBB-", with a negative outlook.

February 16

- The National Bank of Romania announces that, in the period January-December 2025, the current account of the balance of payments recorded a deficit of 30,127 million euros, compared to 28,853 million euros in the period January-December 2024. In its structure, the balance of goods recorded a deficit lower by 637 million euros, the balance of services - a surplus higher by 369 million euros, the balance of primary income - a deficit higher by 1,861 million euros, and the balance of secondary income - a surplus lower by 419 million euros.

February 17

- The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania, meeting in session, decides the following: maintaining the monetary policy interest rate at the level of 6.50% per annum;

maintaining the interest rate for the lending facility (Lombard) at 7.50% and the interest rate on the deposit facility at 5.50% per annum; maintaining the current levels of the minimum reserve requirements for lei and foreign currency liabilities of credit institutions.

- The franc reaches the maximum exchange rate of the month against our currency: lei 5.5932, according to the NBR.

February 19

- The Ministry of Finance lists the government securities issued under the second FIDELIS edition of 2026, from February 6-13, on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). The subscriptions made, worth over lei 1 billion (lei 1.013 billion), are available for trading.

February 20

- The euro rises to the maximum exchange rate of the month against the leu: lei 5.0974, according to NBR figures.

- The dollar - at the highest rate of the month against our currency: 4.3327 lei, according to the NBR.

February 24

- The governing coalition reaches a consensus on the 3rd Package of fiscal measures, which concerns the reform of the administration and the relaunch of the economy.

- The NBR announces that the broad money supply (M3) recorded, at the end of January 2026, a balance of 785,239 million lei. This decreased by 1.3% (-2.1% in real terms) compared to December 2025, and compared to January 2025 it increased by 6.9% (-2.5% in real terms).

February 25

- The gram of gold reaches the maximum price of the month: 719.611 lei, according to the NBR.

February 26

- The German Central Bank, together with 19 national central banks of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the European Central Bank (ECB), launches Phase III of the EU-funded programme "Strengthening the institutional capacities of central banks in the Western Balkans with a view to integration into the European System of Central Banks”.

February 27

- The Ministry of Finance announces that the consolidated general budget ended with a surplus of 0.85 billion lei, or 0.04% of GDP, in January 2026, compared to a deficit of 11.01 billion lei, or 0.58% of GDP in the same month in 2025. It is the first execution in the last seven years with a budget surplus in January, the previous one being recorded in 2019.

- The BET index, of the 20 most liquid securities on the BVB, rose by almost 3.4% last month, to 28,112 points, after reaching a new historical record of 29,446 points on February 23.

- The BET-BK index, the benchmark for the performance of equity investment funds, appreciated by 1.8%, to 5,605 points.

- Shares of natural gas carrier Transgaz Mediaş rose by about 21% last month, those of energy infrastructure company Premier Energy by 19.7%.

- Shares of electricity carrier Transelectrica appreciated by 18.5%, those of oil and gas producer OMV Petrom fell by 4.5% last month.

- BRD-Groupe Societe Generale shares appreciated by 5.4% in February, those of Banca Transilvania by 6.3%.

- Antibiotice Iaşi shares fell by 7.8%, those of Electrica by 4.1%.

- The BET-FI index, of former SIFs and Fondul Proprietatea, registered a decrease of 0.6%, to 102,750 points, being the only BVB basket of shares that depreciated in February, amid the decline of FP securities.
