April 2

- The Executive approves the National Strategy of State Reserves for the period 2026-2030, which aims to strengthen the state's response capacity in situations of energy, food, military or humanitarian crisis.

April 3

- The Executive adopts an emergency ordinance by which the excise duty on standard diesel sold on the domestic market is temporarily reduced by 30 bani per liter: from 2,804.29 lei/1,000 liters to 2,504.29 lei/1,000 liters.

April 15

- Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan present a plan to eliminate speculative blockages in the electricity grids and accelerate strategic investments.

April 16

- The Government approves the report of an inter-ministerial committee led by the Deputy Prime Minister for State Reform, Oana Gheorghiu, a document containing the list of state-owned companies considered eligible for listing on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).

April 23

- PSD ministers resign from the Bolojan Government, and in the following days the state secretaries, including the Secretary General of the Government, also resign.

April 28

- PSD and opposition parties file a motion of censure against the Government, accusing it of "accelerated sale of public assets" and "subordination of the state's strategic interests to financial markets".

April 29

- The motion of censure entitled "STOP the "Bolojan Plan' of destroying the economy, impoverishing the population and fraudulently selling state assets" is presented in the reunified plenary of Parliament by the leader of the AUR senators, Petrişor Peiu.

May 5

- The Government approves the SAFE agreement with the European Commission, through which our country can access up to 16.68 billion euros for the development of the defense industry, logistics infrastructure and strategic capabilities.

- The motion of censure initiated by the PSD, AUR and PACE parliamentarians - Romania First against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan is adopted.

May 15

- The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania decides to maintain the monetary policy interest rate at 6.50% per year.

May 16

- Standard & Poor's reconfirms Romania's sovereign rating at BBB-/A-3, maintaining the country in the investment-grade category.

May 18

- Consultations take place between President Nicuşor Dan and the parliamentary political parties and formations in order to outline a governing formula.

- Fitch Ratings warns that the deterioration of the macroeconomic context, namely the fall of the Romanian Government, highlights significant risks for fiscal consolidation efforts.

May 29

- A Russian Geran-2 drone crashes into a residential building in Galati.

June 2

- The National Bank of Romania announces that, as of May 31, 2026, Romania's international reserves (currency plus gold) were 77,042 million euros, compared to 78,007 million euros on April 30, 2026.

June 4

- President Nicuşor Dan designates MEP Eugen Tomac as candidate for Prime Minister.

June 5

- A naval drone of the type used in the Ukraine war is spotted near Berth 78 in the Port of Constanta. It exploded without causing any casualties.

- The National Institute of Statistics revises the estimate of Gross Domestic Product in the first quarter of the year in a positive direction: a decrease of 1.2% in real terms (on the gross series), compared to the first quarter of 2025, from -1.7%, initially published.

June 7

- The Competition Council fines ten banks in our country with 3.7 billion lei for coordinating their behavior within the procedure for establishing the ROBOR index. The credit institutions claim that they acted in accordance with the law and will challenge the sanctions in court.

June 14

- Eugen Tomac resigns after finding that he cannot gather the necessary political support.

- The President appoints the liberal Adrian Veştea, the president of the Braşov County Council, to the position of Prime Minister. The PNL leadership rejects the proposal.

June 15

- The National Bank of Romania announces that, in the period January-April 2026, the current account of the balance of payments recorded a deficit of 7,980 million euros, compared to 9,101 million euros in the period January-April 2025. In its structure, the balance of goods recorded a deficit smaller by 698 million euros, the balance of services - a surplus larger by 197 million euros, the balance of primary income - a deficit larger by 204 million euros, and the balance of secondary income made a positive contribution of 430 million euros.

June 18

- The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) places Mayor General Ciprian Ciucu under judicial control and subsequently indicts him for bribery during his time as mayor of Sector 6.

- The Mayor of Timişoara, Dominic Fritz, definitively loses, at the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the lawsuit with the National Integrity Agency, in which he was declared to have a conflict of interest.

June 22

- Christian Tour becomes the first tour operator listed on the BVB, after an initial public offering worth 149 million lei (28.4 million euros), concluded with a subscription rate of 121%.

- The Veştea Government is subject to the investiture vote, but only collects 189 votes out of the 233 required.

June 23

- Romania receives 2.25 billion euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), an amount that represents the payment related to payment request number 4.

June 24

- PSD decides to propose party leader Sorin Grindeanu as prime minister, in the version of a social-democratic minority government.

June 25

- The Ministry of Finance announces that the general consolidated budget ended with a deficit of 35.94 billion lei, or 1.75% of GDP in the first five months of 2026, compared to a deficit of 64.23 billion lei, or 3.35% of GDP in the same period in 2025.

June 26

- Rating agency Moody's warns that prolonged political uncertainty and the lack of a functional parliamentary majority may put pressure on the fiscal consolidation process and the implementation of the reforms undertaken by Romania.

- The Ministry of Finance lists the June issue of FIDELIS government bonds on the BVB. Subscriptions made between June 15 and 22 totaled over 936 million lei.

June 30

- The BET index, of the 20 most liquid securities traded on the BVB, rose by 16.9% in the second quarter, to 32,487 points, a period in which it set new historical records.

- The BET-BK index, the benchmark for the performance of equity investment funds, appreciated by 16.2%, to 6,251 points.

- Shares of energy supplier Electrica rose by 43.5%, while those of Hidroelectrica rose by almost 30%.

- Shares of sausage producer Cris-Tim Family Holding, the most recent company to join the BET index, appreciated by 22.7%.

- The BET-FI index, of former SIFs plus Fondul Proprietatea, rose 7% in the second quarter, to 104,406 points.
