Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi has launched a University Sports Association, a new structure dedicated to promoting and developing sport within the academic community, considered the first initiative of its kind in Romania.
The new association is officially registered within the School and University Sports Federation, under the coordination of the Ministry of Education and Research, which grants it national recognition as a university sports structure.
Through this initiative, UAIC introduces a new model in Romanian higher education, in which sport becomes an integral part of the education of pupils and students.
Sport as part of personal and academic development
University representatives emphasize that the association is designed to serve pupils of the University High School and students from its 15 faculties, aiming to make sport a constant presence in their lives.
The institution thus promotes the idea that personal development is not limited to academic performance, but also includes physical activity, discipline, and competitive spirit.
Scholarships, awards and support for performance
The association aims to support sports performance through:
sports scholarships;
awards for competitive results;
material support;
facilities for athletic career development.
This system is intended to allow young people to combine university studies with sports performance in a sustainable framework.
An important objective of the new structure is to build real bridges between the university and professional sport, through partnerships with professional clubs.
Thus, talented pupils and students will have access to expanded development opportunities beyond academic competitions.
Iaşi becomes a pioneer in organized university sport
By launching this association, Iaşi strengthens its position as an innovative academic center, while UAIC promotes an educational model aligned with international standards, where university sport plays an important role in the holistic development of young people.
The new sports structure represents an important step toward modernizing the Romanian academic environment, offering pupils and students the opportunity to simultaneously develop both intellectual and athletic performance.
