The down payment required by banks upon granting a loan to individuals will not decrease by more than 15% over time following the National Bank"s decision to relax crediting terms, according to Piraeus Bank Marketing Manager Cristian Halmasan.

"The required down payment will decrease, but gradually and depending on the type of loan. The most notable difference will affect loans with property collateral and mortgage loans," he told Rompres.

In turn, Bancpost President Mihai Bogza expressed concern that the removal of National Bank impositions on credit policy could favor foreign banks operating in Romania, which may be more flexible than Romanian banks. The overall volume of loans granted last year gained 50% from the previous year in real terms.
