The current case of the defrauding of the BRD, of almost 44 million Euros, is severed from the famous banking case, opened by the DIICOT in 2012, wherein 56 employees were indicted. In that case, several big names were heard, including Gheorghe (Bebe) Ionescu, the father of Traian Băsescu's daughter-in-law, former BRD-GSG CEO Patrick Gelin, as well as Sorin Popa, who at the time was the vice-president of the Paris board of BRD Group Societe Generale.
