The Romanian team ranked first at the 42nd edition of the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO), held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The remarkable performance was announced by the Ministry of Education and Research.
The Romanian Olympic team won four gold medals and two silver medals, accumulating a total of 198 points and occupying the first position in the nation ranking.
The gold medals were won by: Emanuel Mazăre - "Alexandru Odobescu" National College, Piteşti; Radu Stoleriu - "Emil Racoviţă" National College, Iaşi; Pavel Ciurea - International High School of Informatics, Bucharest; Andrei Vila - International High School of Informatics, Bucharest. The silver medals were obtained by: Alexandru Ciobotea - International High School of Informatics, Bucharest; David Ghibu - International High School of Informatics, Bucharest. The competition brought together students from 11 BMO member countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Turkey, along with participants from 13 invited countries: Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, France, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom.
The coordination of the Romanian team was ensured by: Cătălin Gherghe - Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, University of Bucharest (Leader), Ovidiu Sontea - "Tudor Vianu" National College, Bucharest (Deputy Leader). This victory reconfirms Romania's position as one of the strongest European nations in the field of mathematical performance and underlines the quality of Romanian education in preparing Olympic students.
