Young people are "extremely exposed" to online risks, warns prosecutor Radu Mircea Wechter, from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism Offenses (DIICOT) - Mureş Territorial Service. His message was delivered during a meeting with students and pupils, held as part of the "Dimitrie Cantemir" University Days, an event that brings together professionals from the legal, educational and scientific fields. "There are people who have extremely advanced knowledge and can enter absolutely any device. Pay close attention to what you distribute, because anything you send or share can end up in the hands of anyone," stressed prosecutor Radu Mircea Wechter. The DIICOT official showed that many young people become victims of blackmail or other digital crimes due to negligence in using social networks. "I have had countless cases where people said: I didn't think, I sent a picture. It is extremely dangerous,” he warned.
The prosecutor also drew attention to the risk of drug use and trafficking, emphasizing that the penalties are drastic, and the involvement of young people can even occur accidentally. "From the age of 14 you are criminally liable. For drug trafficking, the penalties are between five and 15 years in prison. You can be exposed even accidentally - in clubs, bars, through new acquaintances. More than once it has happened that a young person, without a criminal past, gets involved and cannot easily get out of this sphere,” explained Wechter.
The common message sent by professionals, academics and guests was clear: education, information and responsibility are essential for young people, whether we are talking about choosing a career, safety in the digital environment or avoiding dangerous temptations.
