The budget allocated to the reimbursement of medicines from national health programs will increase to 1.8 billion lei in 2026, from 1.4 billion lei in 2025, according to an announcement made by the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete. The statement was published on the official Facebook page of the minister, who emphasized that the increase aims to improve patients' access to treatments. According to the official, the budget increase by 400 million lei aims to reduce the financial difficulties faced by patients in accessing treatments. "The budget for the reimbursement of medicines from national programs is not just a figure. It is, first and foremost, about real access to treatment for patients. In 2026, this budget increases to 1.8 billion lei, from 1.4 billion lei in 2025," Alexandru Rogobete said. The minister added that this increase would ensure the continuity of treatments and reduce the number of situations in which patients have to bear high costs.
• Measure to correct imbalances in the system
The official mentioned that the decision is part of a broader process of consolidating the healthcare system, which has been affected in the past by funding imbalances.
"It does not solve everything overnight, but it is a concrete step in the right direction. We continue to build a system in which treatment is not a privilege, but a right," Alexandru Rogobete said. Budgets for reimbursed medicines represent one of the sensitive components of the healthcare system, given the increasing costs of modern therapies and the number of patients eligible for national programs. The announced increase comes in a context in which the authorities are trying to maintain the balance between financial sustainability and the need for expanded access to treatments.
