A new protocol between the Bucharest Hospitals and Medical Services Administration (ASSMB) and the Bucharest-Ilfov College of Physiotherapists introduces postural screening in schools in the capital, to prevent musculoskeletal disorders among children and adolescents.

School nurses, the first responsible for identifying problems

According to the ASSMB, nurses in school offices will be trained to observe and report possible orthopedic problems or posture defects. They will benefit from specialized courses supported by physiotherapists, so that they can detect deviations early and recommend appropriate interventions. "What does this mean for students? In the long term, we help them have a correct posture, avoid musculoskeletal problems and adopt healthy habits,” emphasized the public administrator of the Capital, Lucian Judele.

Direct postural screening in schools

The protocol provides for the implementation of a postural screening in school medical offices, where students will be periodically evaluated. If problems are detected, they can be corrected early through physiotherapy programs, medical recommendations or adapted physical activities. "The project aims at early identification of problems and effective interventions to prevent their worsening,” explained the director of the School Medicine Directorate within the ASSMB, Alin Popa.

Long-term impact: better health for future generations

Representatives of the Bucharest-Ilfov College of Physiotherapists believe that the initiative has a strategic value for public health. "The collaboration will significantly contribute to reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders among students and young people, promoting movement and healthy habits, and making students responsible for their own health,” said the institution's president, Alina Claudia Ghergin.

A problem too often ignored

Specialists warn that, once established, bad posture can negatively influence children's health for the rest of their lives, being associated with chronic back pain, spinal deformities, and reduced mobility. Through this protocol, Bucharest becomes the first city to introduce a postural prevention program in schools at an institutional level, a step considered essential for a healthier generation more aware of the importance of taking care of their own bodies.
