The Romanian Football Federation has reconfirmed Mircea Lucescu as national team coach, after a week in which he gave the impression that he was looking for another solution meant to save what could still be saved from the current World Cup qualifying campaign. In fact, immediately after the semi-failure with Cyprus last week, Lucescu announced that he was willing to retire if the FRF came up with another solution.
From what we can see, the solution does not exist, if it was really sought, so we are thinking of a real coaching crisis. Leaving aside the fact that there is also an "external" solution for the first national team, we will briefly refer to the "internal" one.
Absolutely coincidentally, at this moment the vast majority of the coaches who have won the title in Romania in the last 25 years are ... on the sidelines. Thus, the champions Gheorghe Hagi (with Viitorul and Farul), Ioan Andone (Dinamo, CFR Cluj), Mircea Rednic (Dinamo, Rapid), Marius Şumudică (Astra), Dorinel Munteanu (Oţelul), Dan Petrescu (CFR Cluj, Unirea Urziceni), Victor Piţurcă (Steaua) are free from contract. Can't any of them be a solution? In the case of the above, we can't talk about old age, considering that all of them are younger than the current coach.
In fact, we are not talking about a personnel crisis. We have everything: coaches with CVs, experience, trophies. The problem is different: at the House of Football, there is a fear of making decisive decisions. The option that offers as many alibis as possible is always preferred. Unfortunately, alibis do not bring performance.
