The Ovidius University of Constanta (UOC) is hosting the 18th edition of the International Congress on Press History, on May 23-24, a landmark event for the field of Communication Sciences. The main organizers are the Faculty of Letters - Journalism study program and the Romanian Association for Press History (ARIP).
The event brings together approximately 80 participants - academics, researchers, students and journalists - in an exchange of ideas about the role of the press in the ideological shaping of society. This year's theme, "Ideologies in the Press. Editorial Policies and Case Studies", proposes a critical exploration of how the media have reflected, legitimized or contested dominant ideologies over time.
• Ten thematic sections dedicated to the press and ideologies
The congress papers are grouped into ten sections relevant to the history and analysis of the press: Democratic regimes and freedom of expression; Extremist and populist discourse in contemporary media; Totalitarian regimes and written/audiovisual media; Propaganda in the modern era; Gender, interethnic relations and ideology; The press in the communist regime; Cultural magazines and military issues; Editorial policies and their influence on content;
Propaganda and disinformation; Ideologies in cultural magazines.
The congress proposes an x-ray of the press in various historical and political contexts, analyzing both the instrumentalization of the media and the role of the journalist as a guardian of truth and social responsibility. In an era marked by crises of trust in the media, academic reflections become more relevant than ever.
