The National Academy of Music "Gheorghe Dima" in Cluj-Napoca has officially taken possession of its new headquarters, an investment of 127.8 million lei made entirely from government funds. The institution's rector, prof. dr. Vasile Jucan, declared in a press conference that the inauguration represents "a historic moment" for the academic community and for Romanian culture.

Four years of work, a unique campus in our country

The construction of the new campus began four years ago and covers 27,000 square meters of built area. The project includes, among others, classrooms, acoustic studios, a choreography room, directing spaces, a library, workshops and social areas for students. In addition, the campus has a dormitory with 182 seats, a gym, locker rooms and modern technical spaces.

A reference concert hall

The center of the campus is the Heritage hall, designed in an oval shape that optimizes acoustics. The walls are clad in Gustafs wood, and the stage is made of pine wood. The hall has 1,032 fixed seats, but can be expanded to 1,050 by adding mobile chairs. At the same time, two amphitheaters with 239 seats each complete the infrastructure. "It is the largest concert hall built in Romania after 1989, with excellent acoustics and all the necessary functionalities," the rector emphasized.

Open-air amphitheater for 2,100 spectators

Another attraction of the campus will be the open-air amphitheater under construction, with a capacity of 2,100 seats. According to the rector, it will be "exceptional, both architecturally and functionally”.

The largest cultural investment since the December Revolution

The rector highlighted the fact that the project was financed exclusively from government funds, without European contributions, which makes it "a rare achievement” in the landscape of cultural infrastructure in Romania. "It is the largest investment by the Romanian state in cultural infrastructure after 1989”, concluded Prof. Dr. Vasile Jucan.
