UMFST Târgu Mureş, European pilot university for digital education interoperability

Versiunea în limba română

The "George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology of Târgu Mureş (UMFST) has been designated as the pilot university for the testing and validation of the European Interoperability Framework for Digital Education, a strategic instrument of the European Union aimed at eliminating administrative and technological barriers in university systems. UMFST is part of the DIVERSE European University Alliance, together with higher education institutions from 11 European countries. According to a statement published by the university, the project is being carried out within the European Hub for Digital Education, a platform coordinated by the European Commission, which aims to harmonize digital educational processes at a continental level.

A key role in defining European standards

By participating in the Task Force dedicated to interoperability, UMFST directly contributes to the definition of common standards designed to allow: the rapid and secure transfer of academic records, credits and qualifications; improving the experience of students and teaching staff, by simplifying procedures and reducing repetitive administrative tasks; strengthening cooperation between partner universities, through the exchange of data, digital tools and good practices.

UMFST representatives emphasize that the main objective of the European framework is to facilitate barrier-free educational processes, so that students and teachers can benefit from real academic mobility and automatic recognition of studies in the European space.

Case studies and unified educational path

The collaboration within the pilot project focuses on testing two concrete case studies, designed to create and validate a unified information and application path for defining university courses. The focus is on: providing clear and comparable information about study programs; step-by-step guidance for students; transparent rules for academic recognition between institutions. In the first stage, the project prioritizes microcertifications, considered a relevant model for inter-university study opportunities and for the rapid adaptation of skills to labor market requirements. "Through its role within the alliance and this project, UMFST contributes to transforming interoperability from concept to practice, supporting the development of academic mobility and the modernization of digital education at European level,” the university representatives said.

The DIVERSE (Diversity and Inclusion, Visibility, Equity, Research, Sustainability, Excellence) university alliance brings together 12 universities from 11 European countries, totaling over 150,000 students and more than 15,000 teaching staff and researchers. Last year, DIVERSE, holder of the Seal of Excellence, was officially recognized by the European Commission as a European University Alliance, confirming its strategic positioning in the architecture of European higher education. The Alliance aims to become a global leader in the fields of Venture Science and Deep Tech, consolidating itself as a multidisciplinary European institution oriented towards technological innovation and entrepreneurship, while promoting the fundamental values of the European Union.
