The Ministry of Education will develop new mechanisms to prevent and sanction the promotion of pseudoscience in education, announced the Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, in an intervention on a social network. "The ministry currently does not have the necessary tools to block pseudoscientific approaches in education. We will develop such mechanisms, most likely related to the annual evaluation of teaching staff," the minister said.

Pseudoscience - an educational and social danger

Daniel David emphasized that pseudoscience is not only an academic problem, but also a major risk for society. "Pseudoscience creates the context in which conspiracies, lies and fake news appear - elements that undermine trust in institutions and the proper functioning of a democratic society," he warned. The minister proposed that annual teacher evaluations include an indicator on the promotion of authentic science, so that slippages can be identified and sanctioned.

A step towards intellectual hygiene in education

Daniel David - a professor of psychology and supporter of evidence-based education - also said that these measures are not aimed at censoring ideas, but at ensuring a rigorous and responsible educational climate. "If a teacher promotes pseudoscientific ideas in front of pupils or students, this must become punishable. We are not talking about personal opinions, but about educational responsibility in the public space of the school," the minister said.

This initiative comes at a time when the phenomena of disinformation, fake news and conspiracy theories are on the rise, including in the online environment and among young people. Combating pseudoscience in schools and universities is seen by the Ministry of Education as a measure of intellectual hygiene, necessary for the formation of critical and well-informed citizens. It remains to be seen how these criteria will be defined and applied in practice and whether they will be able to differentiate between pedagogical errors and serious deviations from scientific standards.
