The Dolj County Council and the "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" County Library are inaugurating, on Friday, September 29th, the Museum of the Romanian Book and Exile, which has been set up in the Dianu House, an architectural monument in the city of Craiova built at the beginning of the 20th century. The new cultural institution is the first museum of its kind in the country and will include nearly 40 valuable collections of books, manuscripts, audio-video elements, and personal and artistic objects belonging to the generation of exiles. According to representatives of the "Aman" Library, the future museum's heritage includes document funds and personal collections of academics Basarab Nicolescu, writers Mircea Eliade, Leonid Mămăligă, Vintilă Horia, Cicerone Poghirc, Andrei Codrescu, Cezar Vasiliu, Ion Deaconescu, directors Andrei Şerban and Paul Barbăneagră, visual artists Corneliu Şerban Popa, Mircea Milcovitch, Maria Mesterou, and Constanţa Buzdugan, spouses Rodica and Şerban-Viorel Stănoiu, spouses Romulus and Ileana Vulpescu, and historian V. Veliman. The Museum of the Romanian Book and Exile will also be an interactive space, a center for advanced multidisciplinary research, which will provide visitors with state-of-the-art study techniques and equipment, as well as a venue for meetings and cultural debates. In addition to permanent and temporary exhibition halls, visitors will have access to multimedia spaces, reading areas, leisure areas, as well as concert halls. The establishment of the Museum of the Romanian Book and Exile was carried out through the Regional Operational Program 2014-2020, the project "Sustainable valorization of the historical monument Dianu House in Craiova, Dolj County, by creating a Museum of the Romanian Book and Exile and introducing it into the tourist circuit," implemented by the Dolj County Council, which received funding of approximately 5 million euros.
